...This week I will be attending a course in Advanced Isolated Stretching to better serve athletes and enhance their careers with Aaron Mattes, a Kinisiologist and the founder of Active Isolated Stretching....

A...B...C...'s of Sports Medicine and Athletic Development

A-- Adduction---to bring a object toward the mid line of the body (as if the body was cut in half down the middle)
     Abduction- to bring a object away from the mid point of the body

B- bones there are 206 bones in the human body

C- cartilage---cartilage lines and supports bones and joints (where 2 bones come together)

D- disc's --line and support the vertebrae in the back

E- elevation - to lift the injured body part higher than the heart to slow the bleeding to the injured area

F- femur--the longest bone in the body located in the upper leg

G- growth plates --are openings in bones in young children and athletes that expand and grow as children mature

H- heart the is made up of 4 parts and pumps fresh blood to the body the heart is also our most important muscle

I- Ice relieves swelling and inflamation remeber we ice 20 minutes on 20 minutes off qand always use ice for injuries up to 72 hrs after injury

J-joints as mentioned earlier where 2 bones come together

K- knee made up of a bone the patella and surrounded by 4 liagaments (we will discuss this more later)

L- ligament --joins two bones together

M- muscles ---remember we have 620 muscles in the body

N- numbness when we get a stinger or lose feeling in a area due to a bruise or something blocking a nerve

O- ORTHOPEDIC the doctor you go to when you injured in sports for your knee, shoulder, back ankle etc etc..never see a general doctor for a sports injury

P- physician --is a doctor you see when you are sick,, flu,, sore throat ear ache,

Q-quads the biggest muscles in the body located in the front of the legs

R- rest as in our rice treatment to hela a injured body part we must rest the injured area

S- swelling is a inflamation in the body due to a injury signs redness, filled with fluid, hot to touch sore and pain ful

T- temp the average body temp is 98.6 degrees

U- ulnar nerve "funny bone" located in the back of yoru elbow

V- vertebrae little bones that make up the spinal column in our back
7 --cervical --neck
12---thoracic --mid back
5 -lumbar -low back

W- weight training--lifting weights to make our muscles stronger

X- Xiphoid - a bone in our faces

Y- you; there is only one you so make you the best you can be

Z- --sorry i could not think of one for z always be a HERO never a ZERO
